Keys to Success
To excel in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable in a highly flexible environment where you’ll have a lot of autonomy. You are the “boots on the ground” at hospital and ER locations where we have employees, so you’ll need to know how to navigate a hospital environment. You’ll need to be comfortable going in to the hospital HR to enroll our scribes as employees there, to understand the workflow of the ER and be comfortable in an environment that can be very stressful, and to be willing to make the necessary relationships so that you are welcomed there.Managing people is a big part of this role, and you’ll be responsible for ensuring that staffing is completed for all of your locations, which will require you to keep a lot of parts in motion all at the same time. You’ll also need to be able to please people – to satisfy customers while managing employees, and ensuring that the job is done well. There is a lot of dynamic change in the organization, in an environment that doesn’t yet have a strong structure, so you’ll need to be able to embrace change and run with it, calling on your entrepreneurial spirit to help build the company into a well-run machine.
About EMSS
Scribes work alongside physicians and contemporaneously document the medical encounter as it is being performed. This allows the physician to focus on delivering the best possible medical care while at the same time highly accurate patient records are created.
This process includes transcribing all ancillary test results and the interpretation of the results by the physician, including any lab tests, imaging tests, ECGs and ABGs, recording physician’s consultations with family members and/or other physicians, review of prior medical records to obtain PMH information, and prior labs, ECG and radiographic studies for comparison, alerting the physician when the chart is under-documented and assisting with medication reconciliation documentation. The Scribe must also document procedures and treatments performed by the physician or any other healthcare professional, including nurses and physician assistants.
